How to Fix Battery Not Charging on a Fitbit Device

Is your Fitbit completely out of battery? If it's not turning on right away, don't worry–you may just need to let it charge and leave it be for a couple hours. If that doesn't work, there are plenty of other fixes you can try to get it back on again. Here's what to do if your Fitbit is not charging using Charge, Flex, Versa, Ace, and Alta series.

Why isn't my Fitbit charging?

It may not charge due to faulty cables, dirt buildup, or software bugs. If your Fitbit has run out of charge and won't turn back on, it's most likely an issue with your charging cable. It could be damaged, or it could be incompatible with your device. Software issues can also make it seem like your device isn't charging when the issue is an unresponsive display. Follow the steps in the next section to troubleshoot your Fitbit.

Troubleshooting Fitbit Charge

Try a different charging cable or outlet. You may have a faulty cable or even a faulty outlet. Sometimes, third-party cables may not work properly. If needed, you can order a replacement charging cable from the Google Store.

Let it charge for a couple hours. Typically, it takes about 30 minutes to be charged enough to boot up from 0%. However, when a Fitbit has been dead for a long time, it may take a little longer to get to this stage.

Restart your Fitbit. Plug your Fitbit into the USB charging cable. Press and hold the button on the flat end of the charging cable 3 times with 1 second pauses between each press. The Fitbit logo should appear. If it doesn't turn on, repeat this step a few more times. If your device doesn't have a button on the charging cable, press and hold the button on the side of your Fitbit for about 15 seconds. This will hard reset your device.

Clean the charging contacts. Dirt buildup may be interfering with the charge. Use a microfiber cloth to gently clean the charging pins on the back of the watch. You can also gently wipe the charging clip.

Update your Fitbit software. Try this method if your device is on but can't keep charge; you can only update your Fitbit if it's on. Charge your Fitbit and keep it nearby. Open the Fitbit app. Tap Today. Tap Devices. Tap your device. Tap Update.

Dry your device thoroughly. If your device comes into contact with water or sweat, it must be dried completely before charging. If needed, leave it out to try in a cool area, away from indirect sunlight, for a few hours. Then, try charging it again.

Contact Fitbit customer support. If you have a fairly new device, you may be covered under Fitbit's limited warranty. You may be able to receive a replacement device.
