There are places across India where people are still struggling with water scarcity. Today we will talk about a locality in Telangana which, by god’s grace, never faced such an issue. This place has a unique hand pump, which has been supplying water constantly — that too without anyone having to touch it even. This might sound bizarre, but it is true. A hand pump in Dubbaguda village of Bela Mandal in Adilabad District of Telangana has been continuously flowing out water, non-stop for the last two decades. No matter how many times it has been repaired, the water from the hand pump continues to flow out.
The hand pump is located near the main road of the village and has reportedly quenched the thirst of commuters and motorists. The villagers over the years have also set up a bus stop near the hand pump. Besides them, the farmers and labourers who work in the agricultural farms all day long clean the dust and mud from their hands, feet and face at the hand pump, along with filling up their drinking water bottles.
The locals have said that since a stream is near the bore well, the groundwater is high and because of this the water continuously flows from the hand pump. Hand pumps are manually operated. This one is an exception it seems.
Another hand pump in the state, located in Budukunguda village near Lokari village of Gadiguda Mandal in the Bavi district, also faces a similar fate. Earlier, the villagers had to travel far to fetch water; this was because of a water crisis in their village. During the rainy season, they never faced problems. The summer season posed challenges. So, a hand pump was installed and the villagers did not have to travel a long distance to get water. For the last ten years, water has been coming out of it by itself. Now, the villagers have installed a motor and are supplying water to the village from the hand pump through a pipe.
