Note: This post contains discussion and speculation of book spoilers through the end of season four of 'Game of Thrones'.
By now, George RR Martin and the makers of HBO series 'Game Of Thrones' must be sitting happily in their offices, smug with the knowledge that this season's finale is set to blow the viewers' minds. With most of the TV-watching population glued to their seats, waiting impatiently to see how the fourth season of the epic series is wrapped up, we have compiled a list of awesome situations from the book series, 'A Song of Ice and Fire', that we want to see in today's season finale.
"She don't speak, but she remembers"
For those of you who have already read the books, you'll know what we mean. Remember how Catelyn Stark and Robb Stark were murdered by the Frays in the episode titled 'Red Wedding' in the season 3 of the series. Well, here's a surprise for you. According to the timeline in the series as well as the books, Madame Stark is slated to make a comeback. How, you ask? Well, Catelyn's body is left to rot in a nearby river, after her throat is slit by the Raymund Fray. Three days later is resurrected by Lord Beric Dondarrion, who gives his life for hers. She is now alive, but has a strange pale pallor, with wispy white hair, instead of brilliant auburn. Her wounds have only partially healed, and she still has to cover her slit throat when she speaks. Now consumed with the desire for vengeance over her family's betrayal, she takes the name Lady Stoneheart and assumes command of outlaw band, Brotherhood Without Banners.
"I am the mother of dragons"
One of the best-loved characters of the series, Daenerys Targaryen is currently ruling Meereen, the last of the great slave cities. She has recently come to realise the betrayal by the head of her queensguard, Ser Jorah Mormont. She banishes him from her kingdom, and is now ruling Meeran. We'd definitely like to see more of the dragons in the episode. But her dragons are getting larger and harder to tame. In the books, she is forced to lock them up in the dungeons because of the the dragons hunts a 6-year-old girl.
A day will come when you think yourself safe and happy, and suddenly your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth -- and you'll know the debt is paid"
We all knew this day was going to come. Well, after the monumentally gruesome episode 'The Mountain and the Viper', Tyrion's fate is sealed. But with the help of Jamie Lanniser and Varys the spider, Tyrion manages to escape the dungeons to his freedom. But not before he kills his father -- that too, when Tywin is in bed with Tyrion's paramour. Sweet success.
"I know he's guilty. He and Sansa planned it together"
We are sure that there was no dry eye among the GoT viewers who watched the episode 'The Laws of Gods and Men'. Shae, the prostitute who Tyrion Lannister learns to deeply care about, betrays him in that episode. And for what we ask? Money and revenge. You see, fearing that his enemies might take advantage of his one weakness (her), he sends Shae somewhere far away. But she misconstrues this as betrayal, and when Tywin and Cersei ask her to give a false testimony against the imp, she agrees. That is when of course, Tyrion looses it and gives his Emmy-worthy speech about him being guilty of being a dwarf. If you've read the book you'll also realise that Tywin dies when he's with Shae, and that Tyrion first strangles her, and then Tywin. Revenge does taste better when cold.
"You will never walk again...but you will fly"
It is evident from the teaser to the season finale that Bran, Meera, Jojen, Hodor, and Coldhands find what they are seeking. On a quest to find the three-eyed raven that he has often dreamt about. Working with the firm conviction that the three-eyed raven will "fix" him, we expect young Bran to finally come to the end of his quest.
"Valar Morghulis"
Arya Stark is perhaps one of the most badass characters in the series. A young girl, cruelly left to fend for herself, she has been teaching herself how to survive the big, bad world. Over the course of four seasons, Arya has been maintaining a list of people she needs to kill/annihilate. "Ser Gregor, Dunsen, Raff the Sweetling, Ser Ilyn, Ser Meryn, Queen Cersei. Valar morghulis," she chants to herself every night. We are looking forward to Arya ticking off a name from her death-list -- Tickler the sadist torturer. Later, according to the books, she will travel to Braavos and get initiated in the House of Black and White, where she will be trained as a sort-of assassin.
"I want my horse. And I want applecakes and butter and honey, and Shaggy. Are we going where Shaggydog is?"
Where is Rickon Stark? We'd like some light to be thrown on his whereabouts.
"Queen you shall be...until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear"
By now, the queen regent Cersei Lannister must have lost any admirers from the audience (there weren't many to begin with). A calculating, manipulative femme fatale, Cersei has shocked most of her with her incestuous ways. Her only redeeming quality, however, is her lover for her children. First l'enfant terrible, Joffrey Lannister and now meek and mild King Tommen. We'd definitely like to see her go apeshit and make horrible mistakes as she fruitlessly tries to search of the imp, who manages to slither out of her reach each time.
"If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention"
Raise your hand if the 'bastard of Bolton' gives you the creeps. Seriously, one of the most effed-up characters in the book/series (and there are plenty of them, rest assured), Ramsay Snow is a product of a horrid parentage and psychological conditioning. Remember what he did to Theon Greyjoy aka Reek? Damn. Now that Ramsay's father has officially given him his name, we would like to peek from behind the sofa to see what Ramsay Bolton will do next. *shudders*
"A spider does not enjoy the luxury of scruples, my lord"
The master of whispers, Lord Vary, also known as 'the spider' is one of the key characters in the series. His loyalty seems conflicting, though many readers speculate that he is secretly rooting for Aegon Targaryan. We'd also like to see how he helps Tyrion Lannister to his freedom.####
