1,000 eco-friendly buses flagged off

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday flagged off 1,000 new eco-friendly buses and introduced 379 new bus routes in the State.  At a function held at the State Secretariat here, the Chief Minister also handed over retirement benefits to the tune of Rs 32.88 crore to 1,547 transport employees.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister handed over 170 ambulances, purchased at a cost of Rs 17.46 crore, to the 108 Emergency Ambulance Services.  She also handed over 348 new vehicles, purchased at a cost of Rs 19 crore and 76 air conditioned mortuary vans, purchased at a cost of Rs 7.76 crore, to the Health and Family Welfare Department to be used in primary health centres in the districts.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the scheme to provide free bicycles to Plus One students for the current academic year.

The Chief Minister also presented cash awards to the tune of Rs 18.20 lakh to 93 boys and girls from BCs, MBCs, de-notified and minority communities, who finished among the top three positions in the tenth and plus two exams.
