KOLLAM: As many as 15 persons were injured and several others suffered minor bruises when a private bus collided head on with a confectionary-laden lorry at the NH-47 near Polayathode here on Thursday. Lorry driver Dinesh, suspected to be hailing from Haryana, had been admitted to the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, in a critical state. The other injured were admitted to the District Hospital here. According to eyewitness accounts, the Thangasseri-bound bus from Mayyanad, trying to overtake a car, collided head on with the Haryana-registered lorry. The Fire and Rescue Service personnel and Police led the rescue operations. The accident which occurred around 12.15 p.m. blocked traffic on the NH for over an hour. The oil spilled from the fuel tanks of the vehicles was washed away. Traffic Police had registered a case against the private bus. Meanwhile, a Youth Congress activist was injured during rescue operations and was taken to hospital.
