New Delhi: Alleged arms dealer Abhishek Verma on Wednesday claimed that 1984 anti-Sikh riots accused Jagdish Tytler told him in 2008 that he had met former prime minister Manmohan Singh after which he got a clean chit from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case.

He claimed Tytler had told him that a deal was struck and a hefty amount paid to a riots case witness. He said alleged that pressure was also put on the witness's son.

Verma told CBI that the conversation between him and Tytler took place when they were visiting the farmhouse of another Congress leader, Gopal Kanda, in August 2008.

SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkhar said, "I don't think anything is left on the case of Jagdish Tytler. All the evidences are there then why CBI is not taking action against him. I think it should be inquired. If it has taken place then it should be revealed."

Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "It is problematic to know that CBI was being used by Congress when they were in power."
