New Delhi: A mystery buyer paid more than $3 million on the auction site Ebay for the window and frame through which Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed former US president John F Kennedy.
The piece was auctioned by Caruth Byrd, whose family owned the Texas School Book Depository in Dallas, where Oswald fired the shots that killed JFK on November 22, 1963, from the sixth floor.
The mystery buyer was listed as r.seydel and based in the Netherlands.
The starting price for the piece was just $100,000 but bidding was brisk and the item was eventually sold at $3,001,501.
Byrd said the window of the Dallas building was removed shortly after the assassination because people were stealing bits of it.
Like all the details surrounding JFK's death, there are conspiracies that the window is not authentic. But Byrd said on the Ebay page auctioning the piece that he will provide the winning bidder "all the official documentation and contracts related to the window and frame's authenticity".
But conspiracy theorists claim that a man from Tennessee bought the building years ago and took the window with him when he left the area.
