Bangalore: Around 40 activists of the pro-Kannada Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) were taken into preventive custody on Saturday for protesting against "injustice" meted out to Kannadigas in railway recruitment, police said.
"The activists, carrying banners and shouting slogans against injustice to Kannadigas in railway recruitment in front of Kamalabai High School, were taken into preventive custody" police said.
The KRV activists had earlier disrupted the railway recruitment exams and Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) exams held in the same school in Bangalore on July 5, leading to the arrest of their leader, Pravenn Shetty and some other activists.
KRV activists have also vowed to disrupt the unveiling of Thiruvalluvar's statue on Sunday. Thiruvalluvar is a famous Tamil Nadu poet.
""The Chief Minister is misleading 5 crore Kannadigas. He says that this government is of Kannadigas while he himself is taking an initiative in establishing the statue of a Tamilian poet. He (Chief Minister Yeddyurappa) should immediately cancel this programme or he will be responsible for whatever happens on August 9" — Karnataka Rakshna Vedike leader, Narayana Gowda to CNN-IBN
