A 40-year-old mentally-challenged man allegedly axed his wife and two minor sons to death in Chhattisgarh's Surajpur district on Wednesday, police said.
Milan Singh Paikra, who is suffering from mental disorder, killed his wife Panmeshwari (35) and sons - Tarud (4) and Guddu (10 months) in Chandameda village under Bhaiyathan police station limits during the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday, Surajpur Additional Superintendent of Police Manisha Thakur said.
The victims were killed while they were asleep, she said. On getting information about the incident this morning, his neighbours intimated the police following which the accused was arrested from nearby village, she said. According to locals, the accused was suffering from some mental illness for the past few months and was staying with his family, the ASP said. A case has been registered in this connection and further probe is on, she added.
According to sources, the accused is the relative of Chhattisgarh's Home Minister Ramsewak Paikra. Soon after the incident, the minister visited the village and took stock of the incident.
