81-hour-long Viswasanthi Mahayajnam on May 9

KOCHI: A unique 81-hour continuous Viswasanthi Mahayajnam-2012 for the welfare and prosperity of the humanity will begin on the premises of the Puthiyakavu Bhagavathy temple at Tripunithura on May 9. The proclamation of the Mahayajnam was blessed by Ramavarma Kochaniyan Thampuran of the Kochi royal family at his residence at Tripunithura on Wednesday in the presence of the Mahayajnam Organising Committee members led by committee president E N L Menon and the royal family members Organising committee secretary V C Rajagopal handed over the proclamation to Ramavarma Kochaniyan Thampuran who handed it over to C G Rajagopal after blessing it.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the Mahayajnam at 5 pm. Fisheries and Excise Minister K Babu will preside over the function. The keynote address will be delivered by historian M G S Narayanan. SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappalli Natesan will release a book on the occasion. Rishidev Sri Narendranji will deliver the benedictory address.Narendranji will light the fire for the Mahayajnam at 6 am on May 10. The homakundam will have a length of 27 feet and a width of 18 feet. The Mahayajnam, which is meant also for maintaining nature’s ecological equilibrium, is being conducted under the auspices of the Bangalore-based Shakthiveda Wellness Mission. Stems of different kinds of medicinal plants, nine kinds of oil and the ten kinds of flowers which fall in the Dashapushpam category will be used for the Mahayagna.Vaidiks and scholars from different parts of the country will take part in the Mahayajnam. Besides several propitiatory homams, food prasadam will be given to the devotees.The Mahayajnam will help in bringing down the number of accident deaths, criminal activities, torture and harassment of women and children, fiscal instability, corruption, cracks in family relationships, adverse climatic variations and natural calamities, Vishwasanthi Mahayajnam organising committee president has said in a statement here.The Mahayajnam will conclude at 3 pm on May 13 with the dedication of the ritual to the Almighty.
