BHUBANESWAR: The State Government on Friday placed under suspension as many as nine sarpanches for financial bungling. All of them had been arrested by the State Vigilance and thrown behind the bars.The nine included Krushna Chandra Meher (Agalpur in Balangir), Jayapal Singh (Pathuri in Mayurbhanj), Kusha Mahakud (Jamugan, Balangir), Bharat Majhi (Kandei, Balangir), Annapurna Rout (Jayanagar in Kendrapara), P Jogeswar Rao (Allada in Gajapati), Ramesh Chandra Bhanja (Aranagabad in Jajpur) and Rama Chandra Minz (Kinjirikela in Sundargarh).The nine were accused of dereliction of duty in implementation of development programme as well as financial irregularities. Some of them had allegedly bungled funds meant under NREGA and 12th Finance Commission while others had misappropriated Rs 2 a kg rice. Some of them had also received gratification from beneficiaries of the schemes.Following allegations, they were trapped by the Vigilance.
