THRISSUR: If the 52nd State School Youth Festival was a big success, a lot of credit should go to the Kerala Police, who relentlessly kept a vigil on the proceedings, and, in an unprecedented move, set up a refreshment stall at the venue! With a pavilion that supplied drinking water, ‘chukku kaapi and ‘dahasamani’ to the contestants and the general public, the men in uniform have done yeoman’s service to make the event a memorable one.  K A Thomas, convener of the group that includes 35 members representing the Kerala Police Association, Kerala Police Officers Association, Kerala Armed Battalion 1st Regiment, the Police Academy and the Rural and City Zone, said they have pooled in money from the members to set up the pavilion. “This is the first time the Kerala Police is setting up a stall at the School Festival and we are proud that during the last seven days,” he added.Besides serving drinking water at the main venue at the Corporation Stadium, they have also been serving drinking water to all the 17 venues. “Around 50,000 litres of water was served and 30,000 cups of Chukku Kaapi were sold during the festival,” said Thomas.
