Ahmedabad: 'Saptapadii', the first Gujarati movie produced under Amitabh Bachchan Corp (ABC) is slated to hit theatres on February 1. The film is helmed by director Niranjan Thade and it talks about the women empowerment.

Gujarati author Kaajal Oza Vaidya, writer Chandrakant Shah and Thade have written the screenplay of the movie. "A woman has much more beyond her beauty. There is a lot of space that she looks for. This idea has been wonderfully explored in 'Saptapadii'.
"A beautiful woman can be intelligent... She has emotions, and this is a film different in the sense that it does not stereotype or objectify women," Vaidya said.
Asked whether this movie will revive the Gujarati film industry, Vaidya said, "Gujarati film industry had never died.
This movie will add a new dimension to the Gujarati cinema. It will give a fresh perspective regarding the portrayal of women character."
Swaroop Sampat, wife of actor Paresh Rawal, and who plays the lead role in the film, said, "The film is about women empowerment. There are many roles that a woman has to portray and this film looks at the roles played by a woman."
Manav Gohil, who plays the male lead, opined that even though Gujarati literature was rich, he was surprised by the dearth of good Gujarati movies. `
Thade said that director Ashutosh Gowariker, after watching this movie, felt that Saptapadii is the renaissance of Gujarati movie.
