THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The CPM state secretariat here on Monday elected V S Achuthanandan as the Leader of the CPM Legislature Party and he is poised to become the Leader of the Opposition.
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was elected deputy leader. E P Jayarajan is likely to be Chief Whip. The decision will be conveyed to the state committee which meets here on Tuesday.

This will be Achuthanandan's second stint as the Opposition chief.

CPM politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai also attended the secretariat meeting.
