THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 12-member delegation from Afghanistan arrived in the capital city on Sunday as part of the International Youth Cultural Exchange Programme. The team comprises of officials of the Youth Department of Afghanistan. The team will take a three-day tour of Kerala which has been arranged by the Nehru Yuvakendra under the Union Ministry for Youth Affairs and Sports and the Rajiv Gandhi National Youth Development, Sreeperumbudur. On the first day of their visit, the team visited Desabhivardhini Youth Club and the Kudumbashree unit at Nellimoodu in the city. On Monday, at 9.30 am, the team will hold a one-hour discussion with S M Vijayanand, the director of the Institute of Management in Government (IMG), on the topic ‘Decentralisation Planning Activities’ in Kerala. By 11.30 am, the team will arrive at Girls High School, Pattom, to study the school health programme. The team will interact with the students of Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Manacaud, and review the activities of Rural Health Mission and the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan by around 1.30 pm. Before leaving for Kochi at 6 pm, the team will meet Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Youth Affairs Minister P K Jayalakshmi at the Chief Minister’s chamber at 5 pm. The team will be guided in the city by Faculty Head of Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development A Radhakrishnan Nair and Deputy Director of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan V Rajasenan Nair. The delegation will leave for Chennai on Tuesday after visiting Fort Kochi and Mattancherry.
