Mohammad Afzal filed an application before a local court seeking termination of his solitary confinement in Tihar jail.

New Delhi: Parliament attack accused Mohammad Afzal Guru on Monday filed an application before a local court seeking termination of his solitary confinement in Tihar jail.

The application which cited “mental torture” and other complications, requested to be shifted from solitary confinement to the general ward.

Additional Session Judge Ravinder Kaur ordered that a copy of the application be made available with the jail superintendent and fixed March 23 as the next date of hearing.

Afzal was sentenced to death five years back for plotting the 2001 Parliament attack - a sentence upheld by the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court. His mercy petition is pending before the President of India.
