BANGALORE:  Taking strong exception to the opposition to development works in the name of environment protection, BJP national president Nitin Gadkari strongly advocated an integrated approach towards industrial progress and environment protection to avoid time consuming confrontations.
In his keynote address at the 94th annual general body meeting of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FKCCI) here on Friday, Gadkari said that there was no point in blindly opposing mega projects in the name of environment protection."India is currently short of 55,000 MW of power. Without setting up new power plants, how are we going to fill this gap? I don't understand the rationale behind the opposition," Gadkari said, likening the aggressive pro-environment stand to eco-terrorism.

Gadkari also felt that there was a need for aggressive promotion of public private partnership in most of the sectors. "I strongly believe that governments should not spend budgetary funds on projects where private investment could come easily. They should focus on sectors like agriculture and allied industries while opening up other sectors to private people," he added.

We need a development oriented approach to politics, aimed at different levels, which could be done through constructive thinking, fast track decision making, transparency, accountability and acceleration in the right direction, he added.
