THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: And now, a flight exclusively for Kerala. Bowing to a state government request, Air India has agreed to launch a daily service connecting Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode.Air India will fly a 40-seater ATR connecting the three cities, Excise Minister K Babu, who handles the airports portfolio, said. “It’s an Onam gift,’’ he said.Air India CMD Arvind Yadav and the state government had reached an understanding on the new flight at a meeting Chief Minister Oommen Chandy convened here on Monday to review the development of Karipur and Thiruvananthapuram airports and the progress of the Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) project.Air India will use a 40-seater ATR for the service. “At present the air connectivity among cities in Kerala is poor. It is an Onam gift,’’ he said. The government has agreed to provide maximum tax concessions on aviation fuel for this particular flight, Babu said.Airports Authority of India (AAI), represented by chairman V P Agarwal, has agreed in principle to invest in KIAL, Babu said. AAI, the project consultants, is also expected to submit the detailed project report on the proposed project by November.
