BHUBANESWAR/PURI: A day after prime accused in Pipili gangrape incident Prashant Pradhan was arrested by the Puri police, the Crime Branch on Monday nabbed second accused Kala Swain, alias Guna, from a village located about 4 km from Nimapada.Swain, who belongs to Arjunagada village, the native of the victim, also happens to be a co-accused in the molestation case of 2008 in which the 19-year-old girl was a key witness. The CB team tracked down Swain in a village along Pipili-Nimapada road. He was taken to Cuttack, where he was subjected to interrogation. He will undergo medical examination and then produced before a Pipili court on Tuesday.Meanwhile, Pradhan was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Pipili on Monday amidst tight security. While the magistrate sent him to 14-day judicial custody, the CB secured his remand for two days. Pradhan, who had been held from Jatni, was taken to Cuttack for further interrogation.Earlier, he underwent medical examination. Interestingly, the lawyers of Pipili refused to represent the case of Pradhan in the court. On the other hand, about 50 people of the victim’s village met the Puri SP and the Collector pleading that the entire incident was false and the youths have been framed in the case.However, two other accused __ Sukanta Pradhan alias Abua of Poparanga village and Premananda Nayak of Arjunagada village __ continued to be at large. Along with Swain, Nayak was also allegedly involved in the molestation case of 2008 while Sukanta is an associate or Pradhan, the main accused in the gangrape incident.“We are hopeful of rounding up the rest of the accused soon. Our teams have fanned out to different parts of the State in search of them,” CB sources informed.On Saturday, the CB had issued photographs of the four accused seeking information about them from the public.
