Hyderabad: Against the backdrop of the ongoing war of words between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over sharing of electricity as well as water, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao alleged on Sunday that AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had denied Telengana, its rightful share of power.
"Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is not giving us our share of power. He is trying to make crops in Telangana dry up. Under his influence, the Centre is moving ahead by doing injustice to us," the Telangana Chief Minister said, after laying the foundation stone of a water supply project on Sunday.
Alleging that Naidu is not implementing his election promises of waiving all loans to farmers and self-help groups run by women, he said that he is ready to organise a public meeting in Vijayawada (the proposed capital region of new Andhra Pradesh), if necessary, to fight for the people of Andhra Pradesh.
The current dispute between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is about sharing of electricity from the Srisailam project.
Andhra Pradesh wants Telangana to stop power generation, because continued power generation would lead to problems in supply of drinking water supply in the Rayalaseema region.
However, Telangana has refused to stop power generation to cater to power requirements of farmers in the state.
The Telangana chief minister was critical of the Krishna River Water Management Board (set up under the AP Re-organisation Act) which directed the Telangana government on October 31 to utilise only three TMC of water from the Srisailam reservoir for power generation at the Left Power House until November 2.
