TIRUNELVELI: Holding a demonstration in support of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) at Palayamkottai on Friday, the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) urged the State government to facilitate the launch of the plant immediately.Pressing on the need to meet the increasing demand for power supply, the demonstrators said the current power crisis was taking its toll on the developmental activities. Hence the KKNPP should be commenced soon to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the State. They criticised the State government for its double standards and sought the arrest of S P Udhayakumar, convenor of the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy. “The Church should not be used to instigate people against the project that will help the country prosper,” said the speakers. Tirunelveli MP S S Ramasubbu, former union minister R Dhanushkodi Adithan and former MLA H Vasanthkumar delivered the special addresses. INTUC State Organising Secretary P Avudaippan presided.Congress Urban District Secretary M S M Murugesan welcomed, while Urban President of Sonia Peravai K Sankarapandian proposed a vote of thanks.
