Assam: A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Karbi Anglong district, of Assam Police was suspended for posting anti-Muslim comments on social networking site Facebook.

The DSP has been identified as Anjan Bora and his suspension came on Saturday. A departmental enquiry has been ordered against him and Anjan was asked not to leave the state without prior permission.

He posted messages inciting hatred towards Muslims and vowed to stop 'Azan' (Muslim prayer call). He also claimed to have killed many from the minority community including Rafikul Islam, a Congress worker in Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD) in Assam.

One of his posts reads, "Jai Sri Ram, Jai Hindustan, Jai jai sri Ram jai hindubhumi. We should join a Muslim free Hindustan."

His objectionable content came in lime light after a local lawyer Aman Wahud had put Anjan's posts on his Facebook, which got shared widely. He immediately alerted the matter to senior officials in the government, which allegedly prompted the action.

He was suspended till final probe report comes.

Initially, Anjan claimed that his Facebook account was hacked but there were discrepancies found in his statement.

This comes at a time when there is an increasing politics over the Bangladeshi migrants' issue as elections draw near in the state.

Meanwhile, Anjan's posts triggered state wide protest and senior police officers were asked to be prepared to prevent any untoward incident.
