New Delhi: For the law students tough times are ahead. According to a Delhi High Court rule law students should have a minimum of 66 per cent attendance in each subject to qualify to sit for their LLB exams.
"We are also of the opinion that the Bar Council of India provision requiring 66 per cent attendance being mandatory should be strictly adhered to," a Division Bench comprising Delhi Chief Justice Mukundakam Sharma and Justice Hima Kohli said.
The Court was hearing a PIL filed by a professor of Delhi University's law faculty V Sudeer, seeking directions to the varsity and law colleges in the national Capital to ensure strict compliance of attendance rules of LLB classes.
The BCI provision in question says students qualify to appear for their exams only if they have a minimum of 66 per cent attendance in each subject.
As a relaxation to the rule, the provision says that in an "extraordinary situation" a student needs to have only an aggregate attendance of 66 per cent, provided the dean/ principal of the institution clears it.
