HYDERABAD: An attention diversion gang, posing as excise officials, struck again on Wednesday and relieved a jeweller of Rs 10 lakh gold ornaments.The jeweller from Ramachandrapuram in East Godavari district, 26-year Hitesh Jain had come to the city with gold ornaments.He gave orders to make gold ornaments at the Kalpataru Jewellers at Potm Market and took 35 tola gold jewellery and another 15 tola gold biscuits from the shop.Hitesh Jain put the gold in a box and was walking on RP road to reach Secunderabad station when two persons approached him and introduced themselves as Central Excise officials. Speaking in Hindi, one of them took the bag from the jeweller on pretext of checking while another diverted the attention of Jain. They later asked the jeweller to come with them to the nearest police station and the trio started walking. As the jeweller went a few steps, the duo suddenly disappeared from the place. When Jain checked his bag, he found the gold missing.Meanwhile, city police commissioner AK Khan said two gangs of Ramji and Irani are actively participating in attention diversion offences in the city. They are mostly active in targeting people coming to jewellery shops and banks, he said.
