Aussies injured, Australia asks citizens to avoid Mumbai
Australian Minister, Simon Crean, strongly condemned the terrorist acts.

Melbourne: Confirming that at least two Australians were wounded in the terror attacks that struck Mumbai, Canberra has strongly condemned the "appalling assault" while asking its citizens to avoid travelling to India's financial capital.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which confirmed reports of Australians being injured, however provided no further details.

"The situation remains fluid and the exact number of casualties remains unclear," it said, adding the Australian government was very concerned about the attacks.

Australian acting Foreign Minister, Simon Crean, strongly condemned the "cowardly terrorist acts" in Mumbai and described the incident as an "appalling assault" on India's people and democracy, an ABC report said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in an advisory issued today asked Australians in Mumbai to stick to safe locations and follow the directions of local authorities there.

"Australians should avoid travel to Mumbai at this time. Australians in Mumbai should remain in a safe location and follow the advice of local authorities," the advisory said.

Crean also asked Australians in Mumbai to remain in safe places and follow the advice of local authorities.

"(India) is a very successful economy and to see these criminals trying to disrupt that in a mad destructive way is tragic and our hearts go out to the people of Mumbai, to all people who have been hurt, to the Australians who were there but also to the whole of India," Crean said.

Terrorists targeted Mumbai in coordinated multiple blasts and gunfire in a dozen areas killing over 100 people.
