The Austrian Grand Prix is set to return to the Formula One calendar in 2014, the track's owner Red Bull said on Tuesday. Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone have agreed to a deal that will see the race commence on July 6 next year.
The Osterreichring circuit hosted F1 races from 1970 to 1987, and from 1997 to 2000. However, the track has not been a part of the international circuit since 2003. The circuit formerly know as the 'A1 Ring' is now under the ownership of Red Bull and currently runs under the name of the 'Red Bull Ring'.
An article in Austrian publication Kurier said: "Dietrich Mateschitz and Bernie Ecclestone have reached an agreement to the effect that Formula 1 is already coming back to Styria next year."
The Austrian Grand Prix debuted in 1964. There was then a 10-year break from the race due to the track failing FIA standards. The legendary Michael Schumacher, who hung up his F1 boots last year, won the last Austrian Grand Prix after leading from start to finish.
