B Marandi quits BJP, Lok Sabha
Marandi was the BJP’s only Lok Sabha MP from Jharkhand and the state’s first chief minister.

Sevatand (Jharkhand): BJP national vice-president Babulal Marandi on Thursday announced he was resigning from the party and the Lok Sabha.

Marandi, who broke a 24-hour fast in Giridih in the morning, said he had faxed his resignation letters to the Lok Sabha Speaker and BJP President Rajnath Singh. He didn’t plan to join any political party presently.

Marandi, who has alleged there is "rampant corruption and underdevelopment" in Jharkhand, said he resigned to fight for development and security of the people.

He said he had no plan to topple the Arjun Munda government in the state. Marandi is associated with Jharkhand Vikash Morcha, a "non-political organization" led by Stephen Marandi, an independent MLA and the convenor of the state United Progressive Alliance.

BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Sanjay Joshi and former finance minister Yashwant Sinha had requested Marandi not to resign. On Wednesday, top BJP leaders met in Delhi to discuss Marandi’s fast.

For the past three days, Marandi did not confirm or deny about his resignation keeping the people guessing on it.
