BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) have spent a whopping Rs 112.45 earmarked only to utilise during any emergencies during 2010-11. It was proceeded towards taking up desalting and cleaning of drains in all the 198 wards in the city which dose not come under the category of pressing necessity.Speaking to City Express, Shivakumar, Chairman, Standing Committee on Accounts, BBMP said that the money was spent on those works which dose not come under the category of emergency needs. He informed that the fund to the tune of Rs 112.45 crore was utilised to take up repair and desalting of roads and drains in the BBMP area, for which the money could have been drawn on from different heads. He added that the amount which was spent from the emergency fund also included about Rs 7 crore paid to those who were living in the lower areas and badly affected due to flood. Shivakumar maintained that lack of strict guidelines have resulted in such situation. He plans to draw the attention of the BBMP during the council meeting to work out strict guidelines in spending the fund which was earmarked was meant only for emergencies. Replying to questions he also informed that BBMP have not planned to provide succor to those who are destitute and poor to protect themselves from the onslaught of severe cold wave which is blowing across the state and in the city during the winter season.
