Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday expressed surprise at news reports in Australia suggesting it had mutually agreed with national team coach Greg Chappell not to renew his contract after the World Cup in March-April, 2007.
"That is incorrect. There has been no such mutual agreement. We will decide over the issue (whether to continue with Chappell as coach) after the World Cup. He's been contracted to be the Indian coach till the end of the tournament," Shah said.
Chappell is reported to be one of the candidates Cricket Australia was looking at for the national coach's job following the decision of incumbent John Buchanan to step down after cricket's showpiece in the West Indies.
"John has decided that after the World Cup he is going to be moving on. Therefore, we need an Australian coach. It's a tough job," Cricket Australia Director Allan Border has been quoted as saying by an Australian newspaper.
"Tom Moody, Tim Nielsen, Greg Chappell is in the mix, Dave Whatmore is now coaching Bangladesh and he was a long-term coach at Sri Lanka as well. We've got a lot of good candidates for a tough job," he was quoted as saying by The Daily Telegraph.
Tom Moody is now coaching Sri Lanka and Tim Nielsen is the head coach of Australia's Centre of Excellence in Queensland.
