KOCHI: The Piravom bypoll is just three weeks away. But hartal day is a no-campaign day too. So, 67-year-old MJ Jacob decided to beat the heat of the by-election and take a ride on his good old companion - a 1974-make Royal Enfield.Bought in 1975, the ‘Bullet’ has always been a companion of this LDF candidate. “On a sleepy day as this, I visit my relatives and friends and roam around the constituency. My Bullet is quite familiar in Piravom, just as I am,” he told ‘Express’.Expressing solidarity to the all-India strike, Jacob decided not to campaign but visit some homes in and around Piravom to offer condolences to bereaved families. “As it was all-India strike, there was no scheduled programme,” he said.In the morning, Jacob visited a few families in Chottanikkara and Aryankavu. Later in the evening, he visited a house at Ramamangalam. In between, he visited the party office at Piravom and Chottanikkara, where he met several party activists.The day, however, was hectic for UDF candidate Anoop, who visited the fishermen in and around Kulanadu and Kalamboor. He then visited some houses in piravom town and attended a youth meeting. BJP candidate K R Rajagopal visited some houses and met people in Piravom in the morning. He attended two meetings, one at Ramamangalam and another at Mulanthuruthy in the evening.
