Bengaluru: When the RSS is debating whether to continue with its age old uniform khaki shorts, a private school in the outskirts of Bengaluru has hit the headlines for denying entry to a farmer in shorts.
An unlettered farmer Jatrayappa had gone to a private school in Nagadasanahalli near Yelahanka in north Bengaluru to pay the tuition fee of his grandson who is in third standard. The school security guard stopped him near the gate saying that he was not allowed inside as he is in shorts. It led to an exchange of heated words between them and he managed to enter the school.
His grandson's class teacher told him that he should go back as parents in shorts are not allowed to enter the school. An infuriated farmer told them that if the women and men could roam around all over Bengaluru in shorts, there was nothing wrong in wearing a short and coming to a school.
When the issue got out of hand, the school management committee chairman Ramaiah told him that the government rules did not allow parents to visit the schools in shorts. He even advised him to come to school at least in a dhoti or a mundu.
Jatrayappa told the school that he would take his grandson out of that "class conscious" school in protest. According to local media reports, Jatrayappa has now become a hero in his village.
