Blasted theories? ATS' Samjhauta-Saffron angle twisted
ATS says Purohit supplied RDX but FSL reports say something contrary.

Mumbai: The Anti-Terror Squad has claimed that Lt Col Purohit who has been linked to the Samjhauta blasts supplied RDX for the attack. However, this theory is in sharp contrast with the forensic reports available so far.

The ATS is yet to file a chargesheet but the hint that Purohit and saffron outfits could be involved, lends a completely new twist to the Samjhauta blasts case.

In fact, the ATS's claim contradicts the forensic report of the Haryana police.

While the Chandigarh Forensic Science Laboratory report of the Samjhauta Express claims that ammonium nitrate was used in large quantities, a year later the ATS has told the court that it is exploring the possibility of RDX being used.

“The explosive was packed into suitcases, it had an attached timer and the fire in the bogies was due to petrol that was in there,” DIG RC Mishra had said.

The Maharashtra ATS claim also contradicts what SIMI chief Safdar Nagori admitted during a narco analysis test, soon after his arrest early this year.

Nagori had admitted that while he himself wasn't involved, a key SIMI operative, Abdul Razak was.

“Some persons from Pakistan had come and they purchased the suitcase cover at Kataria Market, Indore. One person, Taslim, helped them get the suitcase cover stitched. Abdul Razak helped the Pakistanis in the Samjhauta Express blast,” he said in his narco test.

Razak was arrested in Pune this year. The narco test of another SIMI operative Kamruddin reveals he discussed the Samjhauta blasts with Nagori.

Nagori had also told police that he was aware bomb making activities of some SIMI activists.

“We made 8-9 petrol bombs but only 2-3 worked,” he said.

Soon after the Samjhauta blast Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon had also claimed that a Pakistani, Rasool Parthi, was involved.

So were the central agencies and Haryana ATS barking up the wrong tree? Or has the Maharashta ATS found a completely new lead?

What's your reaction?
