BANGALORE: Bangalorebased defence major Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) will officially hand over the first set of metro coaches to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) on Monday, July 25.The train set comprises one driver motor coach and two trailer cars, together capable of carrying about 1,000 passengers. The handing over ceremony will be attended by BEML Chairman and Managing Director V R S Natarajan and BMRCL Managing Director N Sivasailam.A BEML spokesperson said that about five such trains sets are ready and one of them will symbolically be handed over to Bangalore Metro on Monday.The remaining sets, 150 in all, will be delivered to Bangalore Metro in a phased manner, depending upon the requirement and expansion of the network, he added.Bangalore Metro has already been conducting trial runs of metro trains on Reach 1 between Byappanayalli and MG Road with train sets that have been imported from Korea.The first such train set arrived last October. The BEML- led consortium had won the bid to supply metro trains in February 2009.
