Boston Marathon blasts: Obama orders flags at half staff

Washington: US President Barack Obama on Tuesday ordered national flag be flown at half staff in honour of the victims of terror attacks at the popular Boston Marathon that killed at least three people and injured over 170.

The flags on the White House, military installations, US federal buildings and naval vessels will be lowered to half staff until sunset Saturday in memory of victims of the twin explosions that ripped through the cheering crowd at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

"As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on April 15, 2013, in Boston, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds until sunset, April 20, 2013," Obama said.

He said the FBI is investigating the blasts as "an act of terrorism" and vowed that any "responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice."
