New Delhi: With little option at hand, a majority of broadcasters, including Star, Zee and Sony, have agreed to offer their channels at an MRP of Rs five a month under the Conditional Access System (CAS), though some of them have individually challenged the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) order on pricing in various courts.
According to a statement released by TRAI, channels run by these broadcasters would carry a maximum retail price of Rs five in the CAS notified areas, subject to certain conditions.
"In respect of broadcasters who are yet to confirm dispatch of the reports, a communication is being sent to them by TRAI to report compliance in respect of the maximum retail price fixed by them for their pay channels in CAS areas," TRAI said.
The broadcasters and channel distributors fixing an MRP of Rs five include Star India Pvt Ltd, Set Discovery, ESPN Software Pvt Ltd, Raj TV Network Ltd, B4U Network Ltd, Sun TV, Udaya TV, Gemini TV, Ushodaya Enterprises, BBC World and Zee Turner.
In its remarks, Star India said: "The prices are being filed under protest and without prejudice to Star India Private Limited's rights and contention raised in petitions filed by Star India Private Limited and/or any other parties on the issues."
Star India distributes channels like Star Plus, Star Movies, Star One, Star World, Disney Channel, Hungama, Neo Sports and History Channel.
