BANGALORE: The Congress party has urged newly elected Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda to initiate criminal proceedings against those indicted of illegal mining, including former CM B S Yeddyurappa and four others.Addressing newsmen here on Friday, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dr G Parameshwar said that people are eagerly awaiting the new government to take appropriate action on the report of the Lokayukta.Stating that the report has indicted as many as 787 officials and several corporate companies for having plundered the state's resources, he said, "I would expect him to sign the first government order recommending action on illegal mining."Opining that the new chief minister is facing problems right from day one following internal bickering within the party, Dr Parameshwar felt that following Yeddyurappa's announcement that he would bounce back within six months, has created a sense of uncertainty. While appealing to the new chief minister to complete rehabilitation of the flood affected people in over 17 districts, Parameshwar also urged the government to put an end to indiscriminate acquisition of farm land in the state.Congress Farmer RallyMeanwhile, in the backdrop on the draft bill on land acquisition formulated by the UPA government, the Congress party has planned a rally of farmers in October this year at Sindhanur in Raichur district.Parameshwar said that the entire country is witnessing protests on the present Land Acquisition Act.The rally, Parameshwar said, intends to know the pulse of the farming community.The meeting of the party's office bearers of Bangalore and Mysore divisions would be held on August 19 in Bangalore.He also informed that a decision was taken to hold the meeting of the Executive Committee of the new KPCC on August 20, after a gap of over 13 years. Partymen prayed for the speedy recovery of AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
