Cannes: The countdown to the 59th Cannes Film Festival has begun. The preparations for it were well underway in the French Riviera town, ahead of its official opening on May 17.
The who's who of the film world will descend on the town for an international celebration of cinema, culminating in the awarding of the Golden Palm to one of the 20 participating films.
The Da Vinci Code will open the festival with actors Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou on the red carpet.
This year's jury is headed by filmmaker Wong Kar Wai, making him the first Chinese chairman of the panel.
However, Cannes is not all about fame, glitz and glamour: The film festival attracts thousands of cinema professionals from all over the world.
Though last year, India was represented by Bollywood divas including, Aishwarya Rai, Nandita Das and Mallika Sherawat. Cannes 2006 does not have an 'official' Indian presence on its list.
