MADURAI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) wing on Thursday registered a case against 13 people, including Madurai Corporation Mayor Thenmozhi Gopinathan and Commissioner S Sebastine, for allegedly colluding with an encroacher on the Corporation land.Police said action was based on a case filed with the chief judicial magistrate court by Jeyaram, an advocate from Mathichiyam.Jeyaram said he had made representations to the Corporation officials, including the mayor, chief town planning officer and north zone assistant commissioner, regarding the encroachments behind the Corporation community hall in ward 9. He said DMK local wing secretary Sundarrajan’s wife Rangammal had been constructing a building there.Later, Corporation gave a false report saying the encro- achment had been removed. But, the eviction was not carried out in full due to the intervention of the corporation commissioner, mayor and others, he alleged. He then approached the court and sought a direction to file a case against the officials.
