CHENNAI: DMDK legislator A Baskar (Dharmapuri) appealed to the State government on Tuesday to take action against the trustees of the Choolai Angala Parameswari Amman Temple here and provide basic amenities in the place of worship. Initiating the discussion on the Demand for Grants to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department, the MLA, referring to the significance of the Angala Parameswari Amman Temple, said it attracted a large number of devotees. “Like the Angalamman temple in Melmalayanur, devotees visiting the Choolai  temple stay put in the premises overnight for pujas,” he said. Despite the huge rush of devotees, temple does not have toilets, he said, adding that the facility is now being arranged through the Corporation on an adhoc basis.  Stating that the temple trustees are posing obstacles even in the construction of a basic facility like toilet by going to the court, he urged the government to take action against them.“The Chief Minister told the House that the trustees appointed during the last regime will be changed. I appeal to the government to take action against the trustees of the Choolai Angalamman temple and provide basic facilities.”The DMDK legislator said that information related to temples that had historic significance should be made available on the website (of the Hindu Religious  and Charitable Endowments  department) as tourists from foreign countries visited Tamil Nadu to see the temples.
