HYDERABAD: The CBI probe into illegal mining by Gali Janardhan Reddy’s Obulapuram Mining Corporation (OMC) is likely to envelop illegal export of huge quantities of iron ore through the Krishnapatnam port.A former CBI officer who now holds a key post in the port is likely to be examined by the CBI to throw light on this matter. He is Anil Kumar, CEO of the Krishnapatnam port and a former IPS officer.The CBI has learnt that huge quantities of iron ore were sent to China and other destinations through Krishnapatnam. Sources in the probe disclosed to Express that the CBI has collected records pertaining to the export of huge quantities of iron ore, allegedly illegally, from Krishnapatnam, a port owned by the Navayuga group.“The records are under scrutiny. We are trying to find out the exact tonnage of ore exported to China,’’ CBI sources said.However, once the agency goes through records provided by the port authorities, they will quiz officials, including Anil Kumar, who has been CEO of the port for four years.Sources said Anil Kumar, a 1988 batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre, resigned from service a few years ago and joined Navayuga. Kumar also worked as SP of CBI in Vizag for some time.Known to be an expert in housing, infrastructure and construction, Anil Kumar resigned after working as IGP (housing) in Kerala. He won praise from the Kerala government for completing the construction of some housing projects in record time. It is learnt that CBI officials are in touch with Anil Kumar.It is likely that he and other port officials may be examined in the next few days.Gali-Jagan linkMeanwhile, enquiries by the agency, which is also probing links between Gali Janardhan Reddy and Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, have revealed that Janardhan Reddy helped Jagan construct his two mansions in Bangalore.Sources said it was through Gali’s intervention that the huge plots were purchased at throwaway prices on which two plush bungalows have been constructed by the MP. Interestingly, both plots are reported to fall in an agricultural zone and have not yet been reclassified as residential.Sources added that on several occasions, Jagan reportedly used helicopters owned by Gali Janardhan Reddy.
