Chennai: The Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered issue of notice to Tamil Nadu Government on a petition seeking CBI probe into the alleged attack on former minister and AIADMK leader C V Shanmugam and his party men in 2006, in which his car driver was killed.
Shanmugam, then Minister for Education and Commercial Tax, and his party men were attacked while he chatted with party activists in front of his house in Tindivanam. Shanmugam's car driver was killed in the attack.
The Rosanai Police Station had registered an FIR on the basis of the complaint lodged by Shanmugam, who had named 22 persons including Dr Ramadoss, the founder of the PMK and the former Union Minister Dr Anbumani Ramdoss in connection with the attack.
Shanmugam had alleged that the investigation was put in cold storage after the DMK came to power with the support of PMK and Congress.
In his petition to the High Court, he alleged the police were completely ignoring the various incidents stated by him in his complaint to show "serious animus and motive Dr S Ramadoss and his close family members have been entertaining against me".
He said the actual assailants had no personal enmity towards him and were hirelings sent to murder him. When the matter came up on Wednesday, Justice P Jothimani ordered the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Kattupakkam Divison, Villupuram district to maintain status quo in respect of investigation and posted the matter for further hearing on March 28, 2011.
