CBI urged to hasten Singur death probe
The West Bengal government has urged the CBI to expiate a probe into the murder of a woman in the Singur controversy.

New Delhi: The West Bengal government sought the intervention of the Prime Minister’s Office to expiate a probe by the CBI into the murder of a woman at the site of the Tata Motors’ car project in Singur over three months ago on Friday.

"Yes, we have brought it to the notice of the PMO that no progress has been made in the case till date," Chief Secretary A K Deb told reporters at the secretariat at Kolkata.

In a letter written to the PMO, the state government has asked that the CBI should expedite its probe as more than three months have elapsed since the crime was committed.

The half-burnt body of 18-year-old Tapasi Malik was found adjacent to the site of the Tata Motors' project about 35 km from here on December 18.

It resulted in tension in Singur that had earlier witnessed violent protests against the acquisition of farmland for the car plant.

The CBI is also probing the police action and violence on March 14 that claimed 14 lives in Nandigram, which too has witnessed protests against the acquisition of land for a proposed SEZ.
