BHUBANESWAR: The City plunged into darkness for nearly 20 minutes as the Chandaka grid substation tripped due to excess load.
The Chandaka grid was taken for schedule shutdown in the morning for maintenance before Durga Puja. There was three hours of power cut in some areas of the City from 8 am. However, the autotransformers of the grid substation tripped in the evening due to excess load from Cuttack.

According to sources in the Orissa Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), a conductor in the BidanasiChandaka line snapped resulting in disruption of power supply to Chandaka grid. The autotransformers of Chandaka grid tripped when the entire load of Cuttack city was added to it.
