JAJPUR: A woman was allegedly gang-raped by three men in Chandikhol on Sunday night. While one of the accused, identified as Bikram Malik of Nelia village in the district, was arrested on Monday, two others are still at large. Police said the 35-year-old victim belonging to Jagatsinghpur district, was on her way to Cuttack for court work on Sunday. On her way, she stopped at Chandikhole chhack to meet one of her Balichandrapur-based relatives. However, when he did not turn up for a long time, she approached a truck driver to take her to Balichandrapur. The driver agreed and she boarded the truck. However, the driver drove the vehicle towards Aruha where he raped her. After committing the crime, he threw her near the Chhatia Bazar on NH-5 late in the night. Her agony, however, did not end. Two motorcycle-borne middle-aged men on the pretext of helping her, offered her a lift. They then gang-raped her and threw her at Nelia where the night patrolling police spotted her.The cops immediately rushed her to the local hospital. On the information provided by the victim, they managed to nab one of the accused.“We have recorded the statement of the victim and a case has been registered at the Barachana police station. Search is on for the two other accused,” said Deepak Kumar, the Jajpur SP.Malik, meanwhile, has been remanded in judicial custody.
