The decision was taken at a high-level meeting after allegations that the interests of the Forest Department were not protected in the earlier affidavit. The new affidavit will be finalised within five days after it  gets the approval from the Law Department. Discussions were held at the meeting on the new points that should be included in the affidavit, sources said.The meeting was attended by the Law and Forest Department officials and government pleaders. In the Cherunelli estate issue, several violations were reported, the most serious one being pledging the leased land with the banks for taking loans. Many of the present lease holders have also not even paid the lease rent to the government. After the Forest Department expressed its displeasure over the affidavit submitted in the  High Court on the Cherunelli estate case, the government on Thursday decided to file a fresh affidavit in the court. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting after allegations that the interests of the Forest Department were not protected in the earlier affidavit. The new affidavit will be finalised within five days after it  gets the approval from the Law Department. Discussions were held at the meeting on the new points that should be included in the affidavit, sources said.

The meeting was attended by the Law and Forest Department officials and government pleaders. In the Cherunelli estate issue, several violations were reported, the most serious one being pledging the leased land with the banks for taking loans. Many of the present lease holders have also not even paid the lease rent to the government. Moreover, the portions of the estate were sold violating the lease agreement.

Taking all this into account, the Forest Department confiscated the estate, which was challenged by the owners in the High Court.
