New Delhi: The gap between the developed and developing countries is widening further over carbon emission cuts.
One of the countries with the highest rate of emissions, China, announced domestic cuts and reduction in carbon intensity by 40-50 per cent by 2020 on Friday. The country has announced these domestic cuts voluntarily.
India on the other hand continues to remains adamant that it will not submit to legally binding cuts on carbon emissions. However, India has announced a National Action plan on climate change.
With less than two weeks left for the Copenhagen Summit, Minister of State for Environment and Forests, Jairam Ramesh is in China to work out how the two countries can work together to ward off pressure from developed nations.
India is likely to face immense pressure from the US and the European Union at the summit.
