Defending champion Park Tae-hwan was two seconds behind Sun to take the silver, while Peter Vanderkaay of the US took the bronze.
London: Sun Yang of China has won the 400-meter freestyle at the London Olympics with a comeback win over defending champion Park Tae-hwan, who was first disqualified from the final and then reinstated.
In the morning preliminaries, Park touched the wall first in his 400 freestyle heat, but was thrown out for a false start. South Korea filed a protest which was upheld by governing body FINA.
Park was two seconds behind Sun in the final. Peter Vanderkaay of the United States took the bronze medal.
