The project, which was initially planned at Mancheswar three years ago, will now be located at Janata Maidan with major changes.The Government has decided to use the detailed project report (DPR) prepared in 2008-09, but with necessary updates and modifications to suit the new plan. It will also rope in an architectural firm for preparing the layout at Janata Maidan. The State, which had simultaneously planned a World Trace Centre (WTC), wants to go ahead with the convention centre project first. The ICC’s Mancheswar project was planned over 25 acres. It included a hotel, shopping malls and a host of conference halls. The biggest among the convention centres was planned to accommodate 2,500 people, while the smaller ones were planned with seating arrangements for 1,000. It was proposed to be established in a PPP mode.The Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco), which had floated expressions of interest, had also received at least half a dozen responses.With Idco now identifying a separate site for the project, Chief Secretary B K Patnaik is reported to have instructed that the PSU could use the old DPR, but with necessary changes.The ICC project at Janata Maidan is now likely to house only a convention centre by doing away with other projects.
