City meets Phineas and Ferb

CHENNAI: Kids in the city mimicked the character Candace’s most repeated dialogue from the popular Disney show Phineas and Ferb on Saturday at the Express Avenue Mall. “Mom Mom, look what Phineas and Ferb are doing!” They yelled excitedly at the top of their voices, after the Disney characters finally made their stage appearance. The step brothers came to Chennai to visit their fans as a part of the promotion for the Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) — Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension, that was aired on September 25. The human-sized versions of the Disney characters seemed almost unreal to most kids, after being used to the usual mall clowns with torn outfits and bad make-up. When it was their turn to get their photographs clicked with their favourite toons, they ran up the stairs and hugged Phineas and Ferb. Some kids strummed imaginary guitars and some jumped up and down.The highlight of the day was when an enthusiastic dad carried his little toddler from his pram, taking him up the stage to meet the Disney characters, probably in anticipation that they might turn out to be his favourite cartoon in the future. Phineas couldn’t seem to get enough of the baby’s soft, pink feel, constantly coddling with them. The kids hung around despite their photographs being taken, hoping for an appearance from Perry, the boys’ pet platypus, but he was a no show. After the crowds of little kids began to wean away, the ‘periya pasanga’, as the host put it, clambered up to get their photographs taken. In Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension, the brothers finally discover that Perry is a secret agent, who battles the forces of evil almost every day. The boys team up with the Platypus on an adventure through a parallel universe, where they thwart the evil plans of Dr Doofenshmirtz.
