BANGALORE: Even as Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said on Wednesday that Reach 1 of Namma Metro will be inaugurated on September 15, officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation expressed doubts about the date.According to BMRCL officials, since the Railway Board was yet to reply about the safety clearance, no date for the inauguration could be fixed.“We need the Railway Board’s clearance to declare the route open. The Commissioner of Rail Safety will inspect it after that and issue a safety certificate,” said Yashwant Chawan, public relations officer, BMRCL.When contacted, the Chief Minister sounded optimistic about the September 15 launch.“I will meet the Union Railway Minister in Delhi on Friday with a request to send a technical team to inspect the metro and issue a safety certification and invite to him to accept the inauguration of the metro on September 15.I am at it,” he said.At a review meeting with BMRCL officials earlier this month, Sadananda Gowda took note of the progress on Reach 1 from M G Road to Byappanahalli. At the meeting, it is believed that the officials urged the Chief Minister to ensure that the safety certificate is obtained at the earliest to facilitate the inauguration of the route. The city was promised its first metro ride in October 2010.There were other dates proposed for the inauguration in December and during Ugadi this year.
